The Challenge

As a leading global sports fashion and footwear retailer, JD sports distributes products across the world and has a global estate of over 3,300 stores across 21 territories and has a firm eye on being sustainable.

All deliveries are operated out of their Manchester Distribution Centre, with a new Midlands site coming on line in 2023. JD Sports  required an embedded onsite team to handle the waste materials produced on site and ensure the most sustainable treatment.

The Solution

Each day, Biffa’s embedded operative team collect, move and pre-treat waste and recyclables onsite to improve sustainability and drive value for JD Sports. The Biffa contract manager provides line management of the operative team, ensures an optimal supply chain and produces powerful management information that is available of the Biffa JD Sports Online Portal.

Value & Results

Working in partnership, with strong data, Biffa continuously tracks and improves your sustainability performance. Despite a rise in global sales of £2.4bn to £8.5bn in 2022, the onsite team have managed 1,500 tonnes, of wood, hard plastics, general waste and soft  plastics, resulting in the YOY impact:
