Manchester Love Parks Week: Biffa volunteers clean up community spaces
Volunteers from Biffa helped the local community spruce up three Manchester parks as part of an annual event to protect the UK’s cherished green spaces.
Members of the sustainable waste management firm joined forces with residents and other organisations for Love Parks Week – a national Keep Britain Tidy campaign encouraging people to enjoy and care for their local beauty spots.
A total of 65 bags of waste was collected during the week-long litter picking sessions at Wythenshawe Park, Boggart Hole Clough and Platt Fields. The haul included several broken bikes.
Litter that can’t be recycled will be transformed into electricity at an energy-from-waste facility, while the bikes will be repaired so they can be ridden and enjoyed once more.
When we’re not collecting waste and recycling from thousands of homes and businesses across the city, you’ll find us out and about in the community supporting all sorts of local projects and causes.
Love Parks Week is such a fantastic event as it ensures our green spaces are kept at their best for people and wildlife. It’s also a great social occasion, bringing people from all walks of life together for some fresh air and exercise.
Biffa’s Social Value Team have supported Keep Manchester Tidy with Love Parks Week litter picking events for the last six years. In that time, we have noticed less litter and a big increase in volunteering.
Litter picking appeals to people of all ages and during Love Parks Week we have a wide range of people getting involved from young families to staff from businesses using their volunteer leave.
