If you are leaving the armed forces within the next 18 months and considering your next career move, apply for Biffa’s one-week work experience programme. You’ll have the opportunity to work within an existing engineering team and get hands on experience.

You will find out what it’s like to work in civilian engineering and it will help prepare you for a successful career transition into the private sector. It will also help you decide whether you think a career at Biffa as a Technician, Supervisor or Maintenance Manager could be right for you.

Why consider Biffa for your next career move?
With over 100 years of history and more than 11,000 colleagues, Biffa is leading the way in sustainable waste management. Our goal is to help businesses, local authorities and communities to reduce waste by redistributing, recycling and recovering more.

In 2024 our engineering team achieved a three-star (World-Class) rating from Best Companies, based on the feedback of our team members.
I left the 1st Royal Tank Regiment in 2013 having completed an engineering apprenticeship. While I initially found the transition from military to civilian life difficult, I settled well into an engineering role at Biffa. I now support three facilities and although the role is fast-paced I feel supported by both managers and colleagues, many of whom have military experience themselves.
