Biffa is a “very good place to work” according to thousands of its employees who took part in a major engagement survey.

The UK leader in sustainable waste management was awarded a One Star accreditation by Best Companies after more than 7,000 employees answered questions about their working lives.

There are four levels of accreditation: One To Watch (Good), One Star (Very Good), Two Stars (Outstanding) and Three Stars (World Class).

It’s the first time Biffa has taken part in the Best Companies scheme – making the One Star award even more special.

Biffa employs around 11,000 people at 300 sites across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, from frontline operatives and sustainability experts to engineers and polymers scientists.

“More than 7,000 employees took the opportunity to have their honest say about what it’s like to work for Biffa.

“As well as the overall One Star – think of it as the workplace equivalent of a Michelin Star - hundreds of individual teams across the Group also achieved one, two and even three stars.

“Biffa has a great culture, and our employees take a huge amount of pride in their work.

“We’re committed to creating an inclusive place to work and offer a range of benefits that support our employees’ wellbeing, alongside our range of family-friendly policies that help them balance their personal and working lives.”

Best Companies helps organisations become better places to work by measuring, improving and recognising workplace engagement.

Its accreditation programme is the standard of workplace engagement, recognising organisations and managers who value and respect their employees, helping them retain and attract top talent.

Employees are invited to say how they feel about various aspects of their working lives by scoring a series of statements on a scale of ‘strongly disagree’ to ‘strongly agree’.

If the survey results score high enough, a business earns a Best Companies Accreditation and named on the ‘Best Companies to Work For Lists.’
