For the past few weeks, we have been running our competition to find our next Change Maker and have received lots of inspiring entries from businesses and entrepreneurs working to reduce waste.  

Now it’s down to you to decide who Biffa should crown the 2024 Change Maker. The winner will receive a £10,000 investment in their business and tailored support from Biffa.

"With Biffa’s support we will be able to accelerate the roll out of more collection hubs across the UK & process over 50,000 pairs of unwanted running shoes in the next year."

Around 30 million running shoes end up in landfill every year but many of these have life left in them. Jog on give unwanted running shoes a second chance by collecting, sorting, and redistributing shoes to people that need them in the UK and globally. They are also developing technology to shred end of life trainers and use the material to create new products.

Derbyshire Furniture Alliance 

"With Biffa’s support we could divert 500 – 1000 items from landfill in our first year, which would help 200-400 households."

Derbyshire Furniture Alliance want to stop furniture and electrical goods going to landfill, diverting items to people who need them in the local community. Their project will have a positive impact on the environment whilst supporting local people to access needed items.

"With Biffa’s support we could grow our waste less workshops to expand and engage more communities."

As a creative studio reworking unsellable excess, off-cuts and waste fabric, Slow Projects want to change the future of fashion amplifying the conversation around sustainability. Their workshops show people how to turn well-loved clothing into new one of a kind items.

Recycle IT

"With Biffa's support, we could process an additional 20,000 electronic items over the next three years & provide 1000 training opportunities."

On a mission to empower through ethical recycling, Recycle IT based in Bolton diverts IT waste from landfill. They help to bridge the digital divide through giving repaired gadgets new homes and support the community through providing training opportunities in IT refurbishment.

Odyssey Innovation 

"With Biffa’s support we could fulfil our plan to create a new tool that can enable beach clean groups to collect fragments of plastic."

Born from a desire to remove plastic pollution from our oceans, Odyssey Innovation are pioneering new solutions to prevent further ocean plastic pollution. They support the fishing community in their Cornwall base, helping beach clean groups and offering free services to beach clean communities.
